klinefelter syndrome
Klinefelter's syndrome, 47, XXY or XXY syndrome is a condition caused by a chromosome aneuploidy. Affected males have an extra X sex chromosome. The principal effects are development of small testicles and reduced fertility. A variety of other physical and behavioral differences and problems are common, though severity varies and many boys and men with the condition have few detectable symptoms. The second most common extra chromosome condition, it is named after Dr. Harry Klinefelter, an endocrinologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, who first described it in 1942.[1] The condition exists in roughly 1 out of every 500 males.[2] Because of the extra chromosome, individuals with the condition are usually referred to as "XXY Males", or "47, XXY Males"

El síndrome de Klinefelter es una anomalía cromosómica que afecta solamente a los hombres y ocasiona hipogonadismo.

El sexo de las personas está determinado por los cromosomas X y Y. Los hombres tienen los cromosomas XY y las mujeres tienen los cromosomas XX. En el síndrome de Klinefelter se presentan los cromosomas XXY.

Esta condición es común y afecta a 1 en 500 hombres. Al nacer, el niño presenta una apariencia normal, pero el defecto usualmente comienza a notarse cuando llega a la pubertad y las características sexuales secundarias no se desarrollan o lo hacen de manera tardía, y se presentan cambios en los testículos que finalmente producen esterilidad en la mayoría de los afectados. Algunos casos leves pueden pasar inadvertidos por no presentar anomalías, a excepción de la esterilidad.

Un factor de riesgo es cuando la madre da a luz a una edad avanzada. En la mayoría de los casos, el problema se desarrolla durante la formación del feto en vez de heredarse de uno o ambos padres.

Color blindness
Color blindness is used in colloquial terms to refer to the difficulty in telling colors apart but a more correct term would be color vision defect. Color blindness is a misnomer because only a small percentage of people are unable to see any color.

Color vision is important in many everyday tasks, such a driving a car (does that traffic light mean "stop" or "go"?). Persons with color vision defects may be at a disadvantage in school or at work. In fact, lack of normal color vision may limit career opportunities. For example, normal color vision is vital in such jobs as color printing and color photography. Abnormal color vision can even be dangerous in certain situations, such as in rail and water navigation. For this reason, persons with color vision defects are excluded by law from certain occupations.
