The making of The Hunchback of Nôtre Dame (original title: Nôtre-Dame de Paris), 1831. It is one of the most significant novels by Hugo. The set of the story was the church Notre-Dame on the Île de la Cité. Hugo had studied it well, spending hours examining its spiral staircases, hidden chambers and inscriptions.
