Material: information sheets about Canada and relative activities

Time: 4 hours (50 minutes)

Receiver: Secondary School Students, third year

Main vocabulary used to describe the more important aspects of a country (geographical vocabulary; historical vocabulary; economic vocabulary; politic vocabulary)

Learning Objectives

By the end of the activities, the student:

Linguistic objectives

will be able to read and understand some general information about Canada

Strategic objectives

will look for specific information in the text and use it to answer some questions or create a poster

Cultural objectives

-will know where Canada is situated

-will be able to identify the main Canadian regions

-will recognise the main aspects of the Canadian government

-will be able to identify some key points of the Canadian history

-will know the main Canadian economic resources

-will understand what is multiculturalism

-will be able to identify the main Canadian ethnic groups

-will know the main Canadian festivities

-will recognise some of the Canadian typical dishes

Methodology

Interactive lesson: individual and pair works. Group works for the first of the final activities (create a poster). Plenary explanations.

Assessment

The teacher can check the student’s comprehension with the activities created for each section (geography, history, …). The final activities could be used as a form of assessment because the students should have read, understood and learnt the information proportioned in order to fulfil these tasks.
