Cybersecurity: from viruses to digital signature di Luca Libanore (luca@libanore.it), Francesco Pagano (fpagano64@alice.it)

INTRODUCTION

Information technology (IT) security is extremely important because the diffusion of nets, internet and digital systems implies that a big part of public/individual security depends on the security of equipments, nets and software that we use. In this paper we will talk about these topics starting from a short summary of the menaces that can lead to systems security. I will briefly outline viruses and worms together with the techniques to guarantee security, in particular cryptography. Finally we will talk about methodology, equipment, software, instruments to make the nets safer, expecially those used for e-commerce (economic/financial transactions). This text is addressed to fifth year students of computer science high school. The aim is to make clear the meaning of abbreviations, technologies used and some fundamental methodologies for a safe and effective use of nets and Internet.
